20/04/07 Hello again. I'm getting better at this updating lark. It's only been just over a month since my last entry. I was reading through this page and it occured to me that I never mentioned the fact that I got married at Christmas. Maggie and I tied the knot. It was very low key with only my mum and dad there as witnesses. I'm gigging on a regular basis again and really enjoying it. I've been to some really nice places in Scotland. I played in a small fishing port called Tarbert a couple of weeks ago and played for over 4 hours. It was a great night with people dancing and singing along. It was in a hotel meaning I could have a few drinks, let my hair down and not have to worry about driving home afterwards as we had a room to stay in upstairs. I don't remember going to bed. The open mic night I run at the Red Lizard is coming along nicely. Last night 3 members of newly reformed Indie legends James (Sit Down) were there, as they were in town for shows at the Carling Academy this weekend. I didn't know one of them was Scottish, I thought they were all from Manchester. I've also got a new job at Kibble. As of August I will be teaching music and IT in a new secure centre that opens next month. It will be a real challenge but something I'm really looking forward to. Crackerjack is completed. I decided a few weeks ago that I was going to forget about it for a couple of months to clear my head of it, then go back to it and make sure I'm completely happy with it. Over and out 16/03/07 I'm doing a gig tomorrow night. It's in the Red Lizard (21 Bell St, Merchant City, Glasgow). Starts 9pm and it's free entry. 01/03/07 I'm back. 4 months since my last update on the site. Since I last posted I've been working away at my job and trying to keep up my musical interests. I've written quite a few new songs and finally finished an albums worth of material. I've designed all the artwork and got it ready to go. It should be available to buy on I-tunes and good legal music sites, hopefully in the next 3 months. I've played a few gigs recently, me on my own with my acoustic guitar, playing my own songs and really enjoyed it. I'm starting a new weekly acoustic open mic night in the merchant city area of Glasgow on Thursday 15th March. It's in a pub called 'Red Lizard' and should be a great night, with free drinks for the performers courtesy of the sponsors. Anyone trying to e-mail me should use my myspace page. The mail through this site is likely to be lost in a sea of spam. 03/10/06 Hello, I thought I'd better update my site since it's been nearly 3 months since I even looked at it. I've put a couple of new songs up on the mp3 page. I'm in the process of putting together an EP which I plan to release very soon. 15/07/06 I've just returned from 2 weeks in the French Riviera with my girlfriend Maggie. It was without doubt the best holiday I've ever had. The memories will live with me forever. We spent the first 3 nights in a hotel in Nice. It was cheap but comfortable. It reminded me of Soho in London. Directly across the road from our hotel was a porn shop. But it was right in the heart of Nice, next to the train station and 10 minutes walk to the beach. And the staff were really friendly. After 3 nights in Nice, we decided to be bold and get on a train, with no idea where we were going. We got off the train in Antibes, quickly discovered we had no idea where we were. Then, out of the blue, a minibus pulled up and a nice French lady asked if we were lost. She took us to the tourist information office and dropped us off without charging us. From there we found a campsite 10 minutes away in Biot. We spent the following 8 nights camping in a caravan park called Pylon. It was exactly what we were looking for. It had a bar, shops and a swimming pool.. We met some lovely people, notably Ash and Bud, 2 English guys we met and I ended up doing a gig with. Ash lent me a guitar for a week, for which I will be eternally grateful. Have a look at the images page of the site for pics of my first international gig. I'm going to spend the rest of the summer working on new songs and recording as much as possible.
11/06/06 It's been a long time since I last updated this page. I've been in cyber hibernation. I did a gig tonight with an 8 piece ska band called Esperanza. Their singer (Jake), an old ally of mine, asked me to stand in for their regular bassist. It was part of the Glasgow west end festival. I had 2 rehearsals with them before the gig. It turned out to be an amazing night.. Loads fo people dancing. Music has been on the backburner with me over the last 6 months. The only thing I've done is the occasional gig with Ally Kerr, and one acoustic night a week. I think I needed to recharge my musical batteries. I reckon I might just be entering a new chapter of my musical journey. A few weeks ago I bought myself a digtal recording workstation. This thing has everything I need to record and produce my music in one box. I feel inspired. My first recording with it is up on the mp3 page. It's called 'Another chance on you'. The plan is to record my debut album 'Crackerjack' over the next couple of months, then make people aware of it. Watch this space. 24/10/05 I need to be careful what I write on this site. I'm a responsible role model now. I've discovered that quite a lot of people I know read this page. But then again, I don't have anything to hide. The last couple of months have seen my life transformed!! I get up at 7am monday to friday. I didn't think I would ever find a job outside music that I would feel passionate about. I can make a difference to young peoples lives. How amazing is that? I thought getting a full time job would affect me musically, but if anything, I've become even more inspired. I'm writing loads of new tunes and still gigging all the time. I'm still playing bass for my good friend Ally Kerr. The man is a genius songwriter. He's going to be remembered for a long time. 18/08/05 I've been offered a job. It you read the main page of this site, you'll know I was in a childrens home when I was young. How things change. The home I was in want me to come back as a classroom support worker. I am so thrilled! It's a residential care home and school in Paisley called Kibble. Over the last couple of months I've had 3 interviews, spent time there meeting the staff and children. It has blown my mind. I don't think I've ever wanted to do something so much. I think it could possibly be the best thing that's ever happened to me. What could be better than helping young people get back on track. 19/07/05 Hello, I thought I had better make the site a bit more up to date. I've spent the last 3 months gigging a lot and recording a lot of people in my studio. I've started a project called the Elie St sessions, every session a different artist. I don't charge people, I just find people that I like and insist on them providing the booze. It's been a great learning experience for me, and I've recorded some really great talent. I'm going to start a new record label and release it all. Watch this space. I'm doing a solo acoustic show on Wednesday. It's at Nice 'n' Sleazies in Glasgow. It's the first time in over a year that I've played a set of all my own songs. I'm excited but a bit nervous. I got a few new songs that I haven't played before in public. There's a demo version of one of my new songs on the mp3 page. It's called warm and strong. I'm still playing bass with Ally Kerr. I feel honoured to be involved with him. 25/04/05 It's been 9 months since my last update ( I like to pace myself). In that time I've been to university, dropped out of university, rediscovered myself, decided to stay single, grown long hair and gigged constantly. My entire life now revolves around music. I play bass in 2 bands (I've no idea how I became a bass player) and run 3 open mic nights every week. I've also built a recording studio in my bedroom, including a state of the art virtual drumkit. This thing is something else. I think it sounds better than a real kit. I've been writing and recording a lot of new material (some demos can be heard here). I've also been recording lots of other people, who I hope to release on my new label, when I set it up. 02/07/04 I've played 8 gigs in the last 2 weeks. Hosting acoustic nights, playing solo, being a bass player. I've never been involved in so much music. It's great!! You can view my first solo performance here. I'm in the process of putting a band together. We'll hopefully be ready to start gigging in the next couple of months. The acoustic night I run every Thursday at Hubbards is coming along nicely. It gets buisier every week. I recorded the night last week and took pictures. You can check it out here. I'm constantly amazed at the musical talent in Glasgow. 02/06/04 I met Craig Charles (Red Dwarf) today while I was busking in Glasgow. He offered me £10 to borrow my guitar for 5 minutes so he could play to his wife. I said OK, as long as I went with him. So off went to a nearby pub where his wife was sitting outside. We sat down and he played some of his own songs. I was surprised, they were really good. He played the pop song. A song about about a relationship going pop. I'm really looking forward to Ally's gig at Nice 'n' Sleazies on the 19th. I'm compering the night, and playing some of my own songs. It looks like it's going to be a really busy night (especially for me!) The acts are: Al Mitchell, Chris Leonard, Jim McCulloch, Duglas T Stewart (BMX Bandits), and the mighty Ally Kerr. 26/05/04 I'm hosting a new weekly acoustic night in the west end of glasgow. It's in Hubbards on Great Western Road, on Thursday nights. It starts on the 27th May 2004. 14/05/04 I've started playing bass for Ally Kerr. We're doing a gig to launch his debut album at Nice n Sleazies in Glasgow on Saturday June 19th. My band-mate from moon, James Lindsay is playing drums with us. I'm really chuffed as I'm going to be compering the night, and playing some of my own songs in between the acts. 12/03/04 I'm doing my first solo gig next Friday (March 19th 2004) at the Renfrew Ferry in Glasgow. I'll be joined on stage by fellow moon musicians David and James. It's going to be an acoustic show, and going by the sound of rehearsals, it's not to be missed.
