Moon was born in the year 2000 by Alan and Olivia. It was initially a recording project, with the plan of releasing their music through local shops and the internet. As it turned out, things started to take off pretty quickly and they realised they had to get a live band together. In June 2001 they recruited Pete (guitar), Jake (bass), and Andy (drums). Pete was editor of online music zine Bulaka and a big fan of moon, writing rave reviews on his site. He's also a great guitarist. Jake had been friend of Alan's since childhood, and they had been in various bands together including the fantastic Scottish Ska outfit Capone and the Bullets. Andy joined through an add in a music shop. He only played with the band for a few weeks, including a live TV appearance. It was decided the band would play live without a drummer, using a minidisk backing track. This lineup played over 20 gigs together in the Glasgow area, until Pete left the band in September 2002. He was replaced on guitar by David Mcsweeny from another Glasgow band Surround. David met moon when his band played a gig with them at Glasgow Caledonian University in December 2001. He and Alan became friends and did some recordings together shortly before he joined up. In June 2003, it was decided that something was missing using a backing track live and a drummer was needed. Welcome James Lindsay. Goodbye Minidisk. James has been a close friend of Alan and Olivia for many years, but before now, geographical differences had stopped any collaboration. He moved to Glasgow in late 2002 and a plan was hatched. He had a jam with the band on the 26th June 2003 and fitted in straight away. The first gig with the new band sound was at King Tuts in Glasgow on friday 5th september 2003. The new line-up has played selective gigs around Scotland over the last few months, including shows in Glasgow, Edinburgh and a 2 hour set in Galashiels. If you live in Scotland, look out for Moon on STV in 2004 |
